Jkath Design Build + HanStone Quartz: A Modern Tudor Dream Blog

Welcome to the newest "Dream Home" on the block! Featured in this years Spring Parade of Homes, this hands-on labor of love is finally move-in ready! After looking for nearly three years, Jesse and Katie Kath, of Jkath Design Build, have moved in with their three children, into this beautiful modern Tudor in Minneapolis, MN. Once they found the perfect lot, they began to start designing what they envision as their "forever home". Working with architectural designer Jeff Lindgren, of Jalin Design, the Kaths designed a 4,350-square-foot house, featuring 5 bedrooms, and 5 bathrooms. "I'm drawn to the style, the character of it. It fits nicely in the city and I've always loved a tudor home," says Katie.

Featuring HanStone Quartz, the Kath’s wanted materials that have high use, low maintenance, sustainability and with a design focus was critical not only for their home, but for their client work as well. Without further ado, take a look inside of this beautiful home!

Minneapolis based Jkath Design Build + Reinvent was founded by Jesse Kath in 2010. Jesse has been in the business of building since 2000. After working several years in corporate America and earning an MBA degree, Jesse pursued his first love of building. Utilizing his business acumen, artistic vision and unique craftsmanship, Jesse applied his talents on a larger scale when he founded his company. Katie Kath handles design, in partnership with interior designer, Katie Wick.

Today, Jkath is a team of 6, with several full-time subcontractors on the schedule. Jkath is an award-winning design build firm and published in local design magazines and their home being named one of five Dream Home designations on the 2021 Spring Parade of Homes Tour in Minneapolis.

KITCHEN

The kitchen is one of the most beautiful spaces in the entire home - showcasing a combination of HanStone Quartz, including Terra on the island, featuring our river washed finish, and Awaken for the surrounding countertops and range backsplash. “Always, when possible, use two complimentary countertops in one space, it adds interest and why settle for one, when you can have two?” says Katie Kath.

OWNERS SUITE

“What I've loved about designing this space, is the blend of traditional, yet modern touches. What is MY design style? All of it really, but at the heart of it - I'm a purist and love a nod to traditional elements while implementing a fresh modern take too,” says Katie. The team at Jkath designed the custom vanity in their cabinet shop while contrasting the vanity with the classic HanStone Quartz Montauk countertop.

ADDITIONAL BATHROOMS

All with their own unique styles, Jkath opted for three different designs for each of the three vanities. In order to balance the moody and modern bathroom for her son, Katie opted for HanStone Quartz Calacatta Gold. “It’s so stunning in person – we’ve brought two clients through our home and both are using this design in their upcoming kitchen renovations,” says Katie.

The most playful bathroom yet, they selected HanStone Quartz Coast for its raw, natural, and refined river washed finish. “There is a lot of discussion around this beautiful space, Coast is unlike anything else in the market,” says Katie.

This last bathroom could be described as “a compilation of favorite items”. Using a little bit of all the other selections that didn’t make it into the other bathrooms, this crisp, white bathroom is perfect for a dark color like Embrace. Embrace also makes an appearance in their entertainment area which also features a custom shelf for storage. (See image below)

LAUNDRY ROOM

“This might be my second favorite space, not that I spent a lot of time here, but I've always loathed ugly dark basement dwelling laundry rooms. The only space I've ever known to get the dirty chore done,” says Katie. Using the light and bright Drift design from HanStone Quartz, it freshens the room and makes for a great place to get chores done!
